The Copenhagen Wolves Counter-Strike: Global Offensive Division went to Paris to represent Denmark and play out a group that contained such heavy favorites as NiP Gaming and the home favorite of Titan. So how did our guys do?
The Copenhagen Wolves Counter-Strike: Global Offensive Division entered the 2014 ESport World Cup as the second representative of Denmark, as Team Dignitas had been offered a direct invitation, and was drawn into one of the harder groups as they were to go up against ESL Cologne winner NiP Gaming and the homecrowds favorite of Titan in Group C.
Joining them was KaBuM from Brazil, Platinium from France and the dark horse HellRaisers from Ukraine.
Starting out with possible the hardest task at hand, Copenhagen Wolves took on NiP Gaming in their very first game of the tournament. With de_dust2 being the map, the Wolves definately felt they had a chance to make an upset but sadly that wasnt the case as NiP showed their dominance and took the win 9-16.
Still dreaming of a top2 placement in the group, which would mean a spot in the quarter finals, the Copenhagen Wolves knew that they needed a win when entering the second match which brought on HellRaisers. With recent online match ups going in the favour of the Wolves, the team had high spirits entering the match and felt that it was a game they could win. Once again the map was de_dust2 but our guys showed up quite significantly compared to the game vs. NiP Gaming. With a 16-7 scoreline in favour of the Wolves, they were still alive in the tournament.
Next up was the underdogs from KaBuM and Lukas “Glaive” Rossander lead his troups to a swift and convincing win, 16-9, meaning it would all come down to the match up with the two french sides Titan and Platinium.
Sadly Copenhagen Wolves only managed to take home a win against Platinium, 16-6, but felt short versus the strong side of Titan ending the tournament on a 3rd place in Group C.
